You “Can” Make a Difference!

Start bringing in canned foods for our NEW cause—food for needy families in Jamaica! Our cans will take a journey of approximately 590 miles; and, it’s all in the spirit of the season. Let’s give thanks for all that we have and bring in some canned foods. The IB homeroom with the most cans will win community and service vouchers. The PTSA will also give a prize to the top homeroom. Together we “can” definitely make a difference!!!can

Approaches to Learning

ATL Curry

Approaches to learning
How do I learn best?
How do I know?
How do I communicate my understanding?
Through approaches to learning, students are provided with the tools to enable them to take responsibility for their own learning. Central to this is “learning how to learn” and developing in individuals an awareness of how they learn best, of thought processes and of learning strategies.

Approaches to learning also include:
organizational skills and attitudes towards work
collaborative skills
communication
information literacy
reflection
problem-solving and thinking skills
subject-specific and interdisciplinary conceptual understanding.
Recognizing and helping students develop the range of their capacities, positive attitudes and effective habits of mind is the shared responsibility of teachers, and is at the core of all curriculum development and delivery.

Approaches to Learning or the ATL for short, is one of the 5 Areas of Interaction. Students at Curry need to understand what ATL is in order to grasp the essence of IB and how it can be applied to their success as a student. Also, it will help them select it accordingly for their Reflections.
Use the attached image as a guide. Hopefully, it will help you develop a deeper understanding of this important Area of Interaction (AoI).

The Journey Begins…

Students,
I hope you had an amazing first day! May it be the start to an incredible school year!!! I will be popping into your homerooms later this week to officially say “hello.” Good luck and remember to represent our program in the best way possible.
